Background of the study
The adoption of artificial intelligence in library services offers significant promise for enhancing operational efficiency, user engagement, and resource management. However, polytechnic libraries, such as Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Library in Owo, Ondo State, face unique challenges in integrating AI technologies. These challenges include budget constraints, limited technical expertise, and resistance to change among staff and users. Despite the potential benefits of AI in streamlining cataloging, improving search functions, and facilitating digital archiving, the implementation process is often hampered by infrastructural and organizational issues (Adeniyi, 2023). Additionally, issues such as data privacy, system interoperability, and maintenance costs further complicate the adoption of AI. The case study of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Library highlights the gap between the theoretical advantages of AI and the practical challenges encountered during its implementation. This study aims to critically evaluate these challenges and provide recommendations for overcoming barriers to successful AI integration in polytechnic library settings (Olatunji, 2024).

Statement of the problem
Despite the recognized potential of AI in enhancing library services, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Library faces significant challenges in its adoption. Issues such as limited funding, inadequate technical training, and resistance from staff hinder the effective deployment of AI solutions. These challenges lead to suboptimal implementation of AI-driven processes, resulting in minimal improvements in library operations. The lack of robust strategies to address these issues necessitates an in-depth examination of the barriers to AI adoption in polytechnic libraries (Adeniyi, 2023).

Objectives of the study

To identify the key challenges hindering AI adoption in Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Library.

To assess the impact of these challenges on library service delivery.

To recommend actionable strategies for effective AI integration.

Research questions

What are the primary challenges to adopting AI in polytechnic libraries?

How do these challenges affect the operational efficiency of the library?

What measures can be implemented to overcome these obstacles?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it addresses the critical challenges of AI adoption in polytechnic libraries, providing insights that can guide policy formulation, resource allocation, and capacity building. The recommendations will assist library management and stakeholders in implementing AI solutions that enhance service delivery and operational efficiency (Adeniyi, 2023; Olatunji, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to examining AI adoption challenges in Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Library, focusing on internal barriers and operational issues within the library context.

Definitions of terms
